Guangdong Province will construct an earthquake early warning system in the Pearl River Delta, along with a rapid report system according to the five-year plan recently released by provincial officials.
The early warning system that covers East Guangdong and the Pearl River Estuary allows the detection of earthquakes in those areas 10 to 20 seconds before they strike. The plan also uses the post-earthquake rapid report system to respond to the province's earthquake within five minutes for those measuring Degree Five in the China Seiic Intensity Scale, which is similar to the same degree in Modified Mercalli Scale.
The plan also requires that new construction or renovation projects within the province should meet requirements of existing national earthquake-proof standards.
