Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission officials on July 11 announced the approval of seven new urban rail transit lines with a total length of about 230 kilometers to be added to the city's metro network. Once completed, Guangzhou's urban rail transit lines will extend more than 500 kilometers.
A statement released by the National Development and Reform Commission said that Guangzhou's new metro lines will "strengthen the urban-rural integrated development and fully include the selection of transport hubs that connect railways, intercity railways and roads."
The new lines include the following routes:
• A northern extension section of Line 8 (Baiyun Lake – Guangzhou Culture Park)
• Phase I of Line 13 (Yuzhu - Xiangjingling)
• Phase I of Line 14 (Jiahe Wanggang - Jiekou)
• Line 21 (Tianhe Park - Zengcheng Square)
• The south extension section of Line 4 (Jinzhou - Nansha Passenger Port)
• Line 11 (Guangzhou Railway Station - Guangzhou East Railway Station – Pazhou - Guangzhou Railway Station)
• Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Line (Xinhe - Zhenlong)
