Dear xys.org:
Thank you for bringing to our attention the erroneous listing of a
paper [10.1126/science.280.5372.2101] on our faculty member Xuanhe
Zhao's departmental webpage.
This error was inadvertently introduced by our central faculty
database system, which subscribes to an automated feed of publication
citations from leading journals to populate our standardized faculty
profiles. This particular paper appears to have been added to Dr.
Zhao's profile based on the fact that one of the authors had the same
name/initial—in other words, the addition was a technical error.
Because Dr. Zhao maintains his own publication list at
http://people.duke.edu/~xz69/publication.html or
zhaogroup.org/publication.html, he was unaware that the erroneous
citation had been automatically added to his other, departmental
profile. As he has noted, the site that he actively maintains does not
include the citation in question.
Upon becoming aware of the error in the departmental profile, he
immediately informed us and our school's IT office requesting that we
investigate and correct the mistake. We have been working in
cooperation with the team in charge of the central system to remove
the incorrect citation from Dr. Zhao's departmental profile and
correct the problem going forward.
